Dear Letterboxers,
I have great news! I have replaced the letter box at
Tyranena instead of Aztalan like my original one
states. I am also going to be placing another box at
Aztalan, so be on the look out!
For this one:
The Lake Mills/Tyranena Box.
Go to the state park in Lake Mills. Once by the stone
steps leading to lake, take 20 paces to the left.
Once there, just climb a bit upwards, and there the
box is.
Let me know if anyone will be in the area to find it.

The box is in Lake Mills, WI. The town is off of I-94
and is about 1/2 hour east of Madison. I think that
Tyranena Park may be a county park and not a state
park. Don't confuse it with Aztalan State Park which
is in the same area, and previously had a letterbox
which is now missing.
Tyranena is supposedly the ancient name of Rock Lake
where the park is located. Local legend has it that
an Aztec-like people built effigy mounds and even a
pyramid where the lake is now, and then somehow
flooded the site to prevent anyone from plundering
their secrets. Nearby Aztalan State Park contains
ceremonial and burial mounds of another (or perhaps
the same) culture along with a recreation of the
wooden palisades that once enclosed the settlement.
Both are worth visiting, even without a letterbox to
hunt. Anyone going there should wrap up their visit
to the Lake Mills area with a stop at the Tyranena
Brewing Company, where the beers are named after the
local myths and history. My favorites are the Chief
Black Hawk Porter and the Headless Man Amber Alt.
I hope this helps. And no, I don't work for the local
chamber of commerce, I just enjoy interesting legends
and good beer. What luck for me they coincide so well
in this case.

Thanks for the insight. Wish I could go to Wisconsin and hunt
letterboxes there. From my experience the mosquitoes are large and
numerous there, but I'd brave it!
